Safety is our number one priority
Recent articles about silicosis in the UK have raised fears about the quartz worktop industry. We would like to take this opportunity to alleviate some of these concerns.

At Algarve Granite, our utmost priority is the health and well-being of our customers and staff, and always has been.

We have always invested heavily in safety to suppress the production of silica dust during the manufacturing process and ensure that everyone in our factory is protected.

We employ outside specialists to regularly test our working environment for dust, noise and vibration, as well as an independent health and safety consultant to oversee all aspects of health and safety throughout our business.

We follow this up with a health surveillance programme for all our staff, including those in the office and out on the road, to check lung function, amongst other tests, ensuring we are continuously monitoring and protecting the health of our workforce.

In our most recent environmental tests, personal exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) and dust was recorded to be controlled, meaning staff working at our factory and customers visiting can do so safely.

Fears that customers can be affected by silica dust after installation are a myth.

Silica dust is only produced during the worktop production stage, where quartz slabs are cut and polished. When suppressed by water, the dust cannot become airborne.

Once installed, no dust is produced, so there is no risk to the end user.

As part of our investment towards the safety of our customers and staff, we are looking at the posibilities to change our AG Quartz range over low or even zero silica slabs.

We hope this information is sufficient to put your mind at ease, but should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
